Cookies
Nothing is set until you say yes.
Before you choose
No measurement script is loaded, no request is sent to any measurement provider, and no cookie is written. If you close the banner without answering, or answer no, that stays true for as long as you keep browsing. Nothing on this site is withheld from a reader who declines.
This is stricter than the industry default, where a tag loads first and negotiates consent afterwards. We would rather the page be honest than be measured.
If you say yes
We load Google Analytics 4 and it sets the two cookies below. We use it for one thing: to see which pages are read, so we know what to write next. Advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalisation are all switched off, and IP addresses are shortened before they are stored.
| Cookie | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Tells one browser apart from another so a returning reader is not counted twice. | Two years |
| _ga_ followed by the property id | Holds the state of the current visit, so a session is not counted as several. | Two years |
Changing your mind
Cookie settings sits at the bottom of every page and brings the question back. Choosing no stops the script from loading again. Clearing the cookies your browser already holds is done in your browser, and every browser has that control under its privacy or site data settings.
